Talk About Trees

The "tree lady" came to visit us today and teach us more about trees! We started by learning the parts of a tree.

We learned that the leaves start to turn colors and fall because the weather is colder, the tree keeps the water in the trunk, and there is less sunlight.

Trees have cool ways of getting their seeds planted! This was a seed, that we usually call a helicopter! It gets carried in the wind.

This acorn is too heavy to be carried in the wind, so it relies on squirrels to help them get planted!

Not all trees have leaves that fall off. Some trees have needles that stay green all year long, and are called evergreen trees.

These trees have pine cones to help hold their seeds.

The four things a tree needs to survive are sun, water, air, and soil.

The last thing we did was act like a tree! We are a bunch of seeds!

We sprouted and were growing our branches!

We grew so big!

Marty

Max had a great time with Marty this weekend! He took him to the doctor, played on the swings, raked leaves, and had a tea party with Max and his sister! What a busy weekend they had!

What Are We Learning This Week

We have two new sight words and new word families this week!

We have weekly poems. This week's poem is "I'm a Little Scarecrow." Can your child sing it to you?

Corn Art

We completed a fun fall art project this week! We painted bubble wrap to look like corn on the cob and then glued it to a husk.

On the Tuesday we painted the corn.

Then we glued the corn on the green husk. Ms. Loggins added them to our bulletin board! We have received so many great compliments! Great work kindergarten artists!

We Won The Class Respect Award!

Mt. View has weekly assemblies that bring our whole school community together. We share who won the eagle egg awards and we say the pledge of allegiance. This year, we have focus words that last two weeks. Our first word was responsible. This week's word was respect. All of our specialists along with the classroom teachers have a respect award to give out.

This morning our class found out that we had won the Cafeteria Class Reapect award! We were the most respectful class in the cafeteria for the last two weeks! We listened and treated everyone nicely!

Here is our respectful class after we found out we won! We were so excited!

Food Adventures!

We had another food adventure today! Miss Clara and Miss Emily helped us make a magic purple salad.

We started by learning about My Plate. We read a book that taught us about taking two bites of each part of our plate and we can be healthy and strong kids!

Then we started making our magic purple salad. We had to chop the cabbage with scissors. This was fun!

Then we mixed in the special dressing! Some kids really liked it...others were not so sure.

Library Day

We love library day! Mrs. Polikoff reads us such wonderful books. Today we read aloud Sylvester and the Magic Pebble.

Then we got to pick out our own books!

Most of us brought back our books today! Way to go!

What Are We Learning This Week?

We are transitioning to word families now that we have reviewed the whole alphabet! Today we learned the -at family and will learn the -ap family tomorrow. We also have new sight words we should know by the end of the week.

Bones

We got so busy last week that I was not able to give the class the Cheeto bones I got for them. They were a nice treat today though.

Writer's Workshop

We are developing so much as writers! It is so cool to see sentences in their journals where there were once only pictures! Take a look at some of the great things we wrote today about Halloween.

Merritt wrote, "I was a knight for Halloween."

Thomas wrote, "I was Spider-Man for Halloween. Mom, dad, Michael."

Sammie wrote, "I was Elsa for Halloween."

Melody wrote, "I was Elsa for Halloween."

Max wrote, "I was Ben Conobe for Halloween."
