Sock Hop!

Poodle skirts, rolled up jeans, scarves, combs....did we go back in time to the 50s? Yes we did, because today is our Sock Hop and silent auction! This is such a fun event so we dressed up during the day to celebrate for a long as we can!

Color Artists

Today we explored the art element, color. We watched a short movie about he primary colors and how they mix to make the secondary colors. After that, we mixed our own primary colors to make the secondary colors! 

We're Going on a Dino Hunt!

Continuing our research on dinosaurs, we pretended to be paleontologists! We had dinosaur cards hiding around our classroom and we had to find them and record their names. We had fun practicing our observational skills and our writing!

Dinosaurs!

There is so much excitement in our classroom because we are studying dinosaurs! Many students chose to read Dino books during literacy choices. We also had many kids observing our new Dinosaur Exploration area.

We also illustrated our Dinosaur booklets. We wrote our title and added our name to the author line! In the coming days, we will add information to the, "what do they look like" page, the "what do they eat" page, and the fun fact page! 

The kids got to use a new website called Blendspace today, and LOVED it! I created a page with dinosaur videos and pictures to get us started on our research! This class has never been so engaged with something! I didn't hear a sound for the entire time we worked! 

We are already becoming dinosaur experts! I would hear an occasional, "Did you know...!!" as they watched the videos. It was so fun for me to watch how excited they got about learning new things! 

Our Favorite Dr. Seuss Book

Today we wrote about our favorite Dr. Seuss books. I was so impressed with our writing that we decided to create a class book! That will be coming up in a future blog post.

Last Artist in Residence Lesson

We had our last PTA sponsored Artist in Residence lesson with Mrs. King yesterday. Here were our goals:

We learned that art does not have to be painting or drawing; it can be jewelry making. We made backpack pulls with some very fancy beads. I saw some of the most focused kids I have ever seen!

Mrs. King asked for some volunteers to come up to the board to share their patterns they created with the class.

Lorax Masks

Today we focused on, The Lorax. After reading the book and working on our comprehension of the story (remembering what came in the beginning, middle, and end), we made some masks to look just like the Lorax!

Can you tell who the Little Loraxes are? I thought we had 23 Loraxes in our room!
