Lucky Last Library Day

We had our last library class with Mrs. Polikoff! Mrs. Polikoff brought all of her stuffed animals to school and she let us each pick one to sit with us while she read us a few stories.

We all waited patiently to pick a reading buddy.

We were all happy with our choices!

Mrs. Polikoff read, A Mother for Chaco, Tops and Bottoms, and I Wanna Iguana.

Marvelous Mathmeticians

We have been working hard on our last unit in math. We have introduced the greater than, less than, and equal to signs and the kids are awesome at it! Add some teeth and some funny eyes and they will never forget who the Munching Monster wants to eat!

Then we challenged ourselves by making two digit numbers and comparing those!

New Math Game

We learned Totally 10 today! This game is like memory but you are trying to find 2 cards that equal 10! The kids loved this game!

Last Library Check Out Day

Today was the last day for library check out! Next week we will go to library and return our books from this week, but we will not check out. The library has a lot of work at the end of the year to make sure all the books are in the right places.

Today Mrs. Polikoff read us two stories! We started with, "You Get What You Get."

Then we got to vote on the next story. We picked, "Silly Goose's Big Story."

Then we got to checkout!

Audrey went straight for, "Mermaid Dance."

Rylan was super excited he got the book he had his eyes on!

Mrs. Polikoff is the best at giving book recommendations! It's so cute watching the kids follow her like ducklings waiting for directions to books or for book ideas.

Cacti

We have two new members of our classroom! I bought two cacti for our class and we named them this morning. We were so fascinated with cacti that I thought we should have them close by to observe.

Dissecting Lima Beans

To uncover how a seed grows, we needed to know the parts of a seed. We started with a Lima bean that had been soaking overnight to soften. Then we peeled off the seed coat and split our seed in half. We were able to observe the seed food, baby stem and leaves! It was so cool!

Can your child remember the seed parts?

We then compared the seed coat of the Lima beans to the seed coats we found on our sunflower and pumpkin plants. Lastly, we looked at the "coats" of other animals to see if it was similar to our seed coat!

The seed coat protects the seed and we realized that an egg shell does the same thing for a bird egg!

The exoskeleton of these bees were similar too!

Finally, we contemplated the similarities of a snake skin to the seed coat.

Thank you Mrs. Uebel for letting us borrow these!

Shaving Cream...On a Table?!

Need a fun way to help kids learn their sight words and clean your tables?! Use shaving cream! We had our volunteer, Mrs. Kessler here to help us out today so we pulled out some shaving cream during reading choices. The kids picked words to write and wrote them with their fingers.

Photo Booth Props!

The kids had some free choice today and they had fun playing with our photo booth props! They even had me dress up and the kids took my picture!
