Poetry Notebook

Every Monday we introduce a new poem. This week we learned Humpty Dumpty. Today we read the poem on the SMART board and circled all of the Humpty Dumptys. We then glue it in our composition notebook and draw a picture to match the poem. We also added our purple poem to our book!

Ben was on a word hunt.

Kaden found the last 'Humpty'.

Kaden then worked so hard in his composition notebook. He was copying the title and being careful not to miss any letters!

Sofia was working hard on her purple poem.

Audrey's great work!

Green Day

We had a fantastic Friday and green day! We played a fun bingo-like math game where I pulled a number card and the students colored in a picture with that many things. We also learned our green song and worked with our green poem in our composition notebook. The kids glue in their poem, circle all of the color words, write the word, and draw a picture of something green.

Chloe, Kaden, Hannah, Luke and Audrey find a picture with 3 things and color it!

Nicholas, Darach, Ben, Alana, and Reid playing our math game.

Reid was extra spirited and used our color of the day to play the math game!

Darach's Green poem and great work!

Chloe showed off her excellent work in her composition notebook!

Reading

We have been working hard to learn all of our Daily 5 choices! We are pretty good at read to self, we know many word work activities, and we are getting really very independent while doing work on writing. Today we learned a new word work activity: our iPad handwriting app, LetterSchool!

Brooks, David, Thea, Michael, and Sofia practice forming their letters correctly!

Look at the concentration of Brynne, Noah, Morgan, Ben, Hannah, and Aarion!

I am excited to see how much our handwriting improves with this added practice! Rylan, Audrey, Nicholas, Reid, and Chloe are hard at work.

Audrey practices her letters by making them with Play Doh.

Thea, Darach, and David work on our new ABC puzzle.

Aarion and Reid practice their letters on the white boards.

And finally, happy orange day! We were a sea of orange all day today! See if your kindergartener remembers our orange song!

Math game

We have been playing a math game called "Match Me." Your child works with a partner and one person builds a figure using our pattern blocks and the other partner has to match their figure. This game is great practice for counting objects, working on same and different, and patterning.

Brooks and Michael working hard!

David and Darach take turns building figures.

Thea is working to match the figure Alana made.

Aarion watches to make sure that Reid is matching his figure.

Busy Day

What a day we had! Our class did an amazing job of following directions and listening today. I am so impressed! We reached our first milestone as today is our 10th day of kindergarten! We had our first artist in residence lesson with Mrs. King, we had yellow day, and we held snail races!

Take a look at the blueberries we made with Mrs. King! Ask your child how they made these!

Yellow day was a success! Kaden and Brooks were both Minions today!

Snail races were a success! We named our 3 fastest snails Speedy, Flash, and Turbo.

They kept going towards the start line so we swapped our start and finish line :)

Oh the crazy things that happen!

Well last night was crazy in our classroom! When I got to school this morning our snails had escaped from their container and Sparky had landed in our classroom! Sparky is very smart and even spelled his name with out blocks! Ask your child to tell you how Sparky knows where to land each night!

The snails made a break for it!

But good news was that Sparky made it to our room again!

Red Day

Happy red day! Ask your child to sing you our red song this evening (it is to the tune of "Are You Sleeping").

Hannah got to circle the word "red" in our red poem.

Michael found another "red"!

Rylan remembered that R-E-D spells red!

Aarion found the last one!

Noah did a great job copying the word "red" into his notebook!

Darach circled all the "reds" in the poem and then wrote it.

Morgan was working so hard!

Great End to Apple Week!

We ended apple week with a bang! We made homemade applesauce in our classroom and made apple stained glass!

Our class watched as I made the applesauce and then they helped order the steps!

If only you could smell this! Our classroom was filled with the smell of apples and cinnamon all day today!

Ready for tasting! The kids absolutely loved it!

I had everything for our apple stained glass project out and ready for the kindergarteners!

Audrey, Nicholas, and Thea work hard to cover their apples in tissue paper.

Kaden, Chloe, Reid, Asher, and David are working away!

Thea proudly holding her finished product.

Michael loved his apple!
