Sight Word Expert Iain

Wow! Iain passed all 220 of his sight words today! Way to go Iain!

Ocean Art

Over the last week, we have been creating our own oceans. We used watercolor resist to paint the ocean and then used oil pastels to create our sea creatures. We added a few creatures each day. Now the oceans are complete!

Last Day of Library

Today was our last library class. Mrs. Polikoff let us each hold one of her stuffed animals and then she read books to us. It was a fun way to end our last day of library in kindergarten.

Combinations

We have been focusing on finding all of the combinations of numbers in math.

We have learned that there is one more combination than each number. For example, there are 11 ways to make the number 10 (0+10=10, 1+9=10, 2+8=10...)

We found all of the combinations of 9 and found lots of patterns.

Today we worked on the number 10. We made a rainbow to help us find all of the combinations.

Sight Word Expert Levi

Levi passed all 220 of his sight words today! He was so excited! I am proud of all of his hard work and dedication to practicing his sight words!

Ocean Week

This week we are learning about the ocean and the animals that live in the ocean. Our story this week is called, Hello Ocean. We are focusing on our five senses and describing the ocean using our senses.

Our poem is also about the animals in the ocean!

We are continuing to learn about Bossy r in reading. Be on the lookout at home for these tricky combinations!

Oregon Coast Aquarium Assembly

We had our "No Bones About 'Em" assembly hosted by the Oregon Coast Aquarium. It was all about animals we find in tide pools. This assembly was put on by our PTA and it was amazing!

We learned about barnacles and had a second grader show us what their hairy legs looked like!

We learned that the operculum was the barnacles cover.

Then we learned about sea stars.

Next we learned about anemones.

Finally, we learned about sea urchins.

We did the tide pool boogie!

They even had things for us to touch!

Thank you PTA for a great assembly!

We Filled the Coin Jar

We filled our coin jar and voted on our celebration.

On Thursday, we will be having a dress up day! Dress up as your favorite character or just dress fancy. This is a great fun way to celebrate our good behavior!

Chintimini Field Trip

Our last naturalist session was at Chintimini Wildlife Center. It was such a great way to end our time with naturalist. We were in two groups and while one group went on a nature walk in the wetlands, the other group got to see the birds that are rehabilitating.

The wetlands at Chintimini were beautiful!

We saw birds eating out of the bird feeders.

We found a snail!

And a millipede!

We saw a pretty red dragonfly near the pond!

We saw lots of newts! Those were a big hit!

Next we saw all of the cool birds that are in rehabilitation.

A Great Horned Owl!

Turkey Vultures

A barn owl like the ones we drew in artist in residence.

We also saw the mascot of our school, the Bald Eagle, Sparky! His friend was also there.

Finally, we saw a Red Tail Hawk.
