OMSI Assembly: Electrifying Science

We had an amazing assembly this afternoon about electricity! OMSI came to Corvallis to teach us about static electricity and current electricity. We did many expereriments to show how these work. Ask your child about it.

Getting ready for the fun!

We were so excited!

Our presenter blowing up a balloon to show us a form of electricity we have all seen!

Rub a balloon on your hair to create electricity. Ask your child if this is static or current electricity.

Because big balloons are more fun!

Our big balloon created so much static electricity that it picked up little papers!

Next we talked about magnets!

We got to see Mr. Van De Graaff (a static electricity generator).

We added hair to show the electrons trying to escape.

Her hair was flying everywhere! Now we know that this is how the electrons escape.

Last, we looked at current electricity. We modeled how water can generate electricity.

The light shows that we successfully made electricity!

As a finale, our presenter lit up some lights using a special tool.

Thank you to our PTA for funding such a great assembly!
