Thrilling Thursday!

Math

We have begun our story problem unit in math. We are learning to figure out the missing number in an equation in multiple ways. We started simply with problems that were missing their sum (2+3=?). Then we moved onto story problems that were missing an addend (2+?=5, or ?+3=5). Today we took it a step further and did subtraction equations with a missing difference (5-2=?).

We are taking these numbers and are putting them into a number bond and then turning those numbers into a fact family! This helps us really understand the relationships between the numbers from our number bond. Who knew math in kindergarten would get so complex! But your kids are awesome! They say it is, "easy peasy, lemon sqeezy!"

This is one problem we practiced today at calendar. We can take a number, build it, break it down into two parts, put those numbers in a number bond, and make a fact family from it! Wow!

The Day the Crayons Quit

You have probably heard some of the kids talking about this book! We have been working with it to practice digging deeper into a text. After reading the book a few times, we were trying to find evidence to support the questions I was asking. Many kids decided to write about it today!
